Glenmary was founded in 1939 by Father William Howard Bishop, a priest
of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The organization is formed
by two distinct, cooperative communities - Glenmary Home Missioners
and Glenmary Sisters. Both groups are dedicated to serving
the spiritual and material needs of the people throughout
Appalachia and the rural South and Southwest.

Glenmary Sisters.
For over sixty years, the Glenmary Sisters have been serving
as living examples of Christs love in prayer and
action in small town, rural areas of the South and Appalachia
where less than 2% of the total population is Catholic.
In these areas a large percent of the population is also
unchurched or, unclaimed.
