Columbans on Mission

The Columbans are an international society of priests, sisters and lay missionaries serving God’s people in Asia, and the Americas. Our special role lies in crossing boundaries of language, culture and faith to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth. Sent by the Spirit of God, our call is to proclaim the Gospel message through our lives, our words and our actions.

Our goal is to assist the Church in understanding missionary activity and to act as agents between God’s people in other lands and cultures. Walking with God’s people, we learn from them about their cultures and faith experiences and share with joy the Good News as we have received it.

Columban Fathers

We believe the Spirit calls us through Baptism to witness as missionary priests in the contemporary world. Our Columban charism impels us to pass on to others our experience of Jesus Christ, which motivates us to go on Mission. Our founder Edward J. Galvin urged us to always make ourselves available to God. This encourages us to be aware of ministering to the whole person.

Columban Sisters

The Columban Sisters are a congregation of religious missionary women dedicated to the proclamation of God’s reign of love in our world. Through lives of prayer and service, particularly to the poor and underprivileged, we strive to witness to God’s love for all peoples.

Columban Lay Missionaries

Columbans believe that every local Church should both send and receive missionaries. Our Lay Missionary program offers men and women an opportunity to develop their faith through learning and sharing in cross-cultural mission. We serve God’s people in Asia and the Americas, especially the poor and those on the margins of society.
